Thank you, Raymond Briggs. 🙌🏾
One of the giants of my childhood. What a gift to share such powerful messages with a beautifully gentle touch. 🧡
RIP Raymond Briggs. A foundational inspiration to illustrators everywhere. The texture, empathy and depth of feeling his work evokes will always be breathtaking.
The year gets worse and comics is lessened by the loss of another giant -Raymond Briggs has left us at the age of 88
Briggs’ biggest success was “The Snowman.” He professes to actually hate Christmas and found the screen adaptation to be ‘corny.’
‘I don’t like the Christmas thing at all. It’s so full of anxiety – have I got enough stuff? Where am I going to go? What should I get for presents?”

An absolute master of comedy and comic strip, of illustration and the human spirit. I suspect he'll be happy that it's no longer blooming 'Work, work, work!' all the time 😊
RIP Raymond Briggs, whose impact - on comics, on children who read comics - simply cannot be understated. When the Wind Blows terrified me as a child, and does to the same degree today. I can’t think of any other work that can say the same.
RIP Raymond Briggs. What an incredible artist & storyteller, who created such incredible worlds with subtlety & poignancy. And how wonderful that many of his works were adapted into equally beautiful films. Thank you Raymond.
So sad to hear of the loss of Raymond Briggs. A children’s author who truly understood children and was unafraid to be honest.
“When the Wind Blows” will forever live with me in its stark honesty and power. #RIPRaymondBriggs
Ah, Raymond Briggs. He was a beautiful illustrator and storyteller, and had a profound effect on my every Christmas as a kid. I still have these books, and I still get them out every year. Hugely evocative and comforting. RIP.
RIP Raymond Briggs, author and illustrator of The Snowman, Fungus the Bogeyman and many other wonderful books https://t.co/plDKcXgTAL
Sorry to hear of the death of legendary writer and illustrator #RaymondBriggs, treasured and pored over his books as a child, in particular loved the way he made Father Christmas both grumpy and altruistic and therefore “real” ❤️
TIL: Raymond Briggs once wrote a children's book based on the Falklands War.
it looks like a pretty wild ride
So sorry to hear that Raymond Briggs has died. Such a marvellous talent in creating comics. I was particularly moved by how he recorded the voices and mannerisms of the older generations, in ‘When the Wind Blows’ and ‘Ethel & Ernest’, about his parents. https://t.co/WpSIQYKMT6
Raymond Briggs, a brilliant author and illustrator. Always loved his take on Father Christmas.
Sad to read Raymond Briggs has died. Many will of course know him for Snowman but his fictionalised autobiography ‘Ethel and Ernest’ covering #WW2 was very powerful too & shows the value of fiction in our understanding of WW2, especially for young minds: https://t.co/TeFSjyX2bx
Farewell Raymond Briggs, best known for "The Snowman" and £Fungus the Bogeyman"
RIP to a great artisit
"Snow had fallen steadily all night long and in the morning I woke in a room filled with light and silence, the whole world seemed to be held in a dream-like stillness. It was a magical day... and it was on that day I made the Snowman."
