The holidays being a time when we reflect on our accomplishments can be painful, especially in our 20s/30s when everyone around us seems to be succeeding
I try to have one or two lines in every arc that’s the “gut punch” line, and Meyer gets it this arc! #GHliveblog
I know I said that GH isn’t the kind of story where I want the narrative to encourage readers to cheer for a character’s suffering
But we can wish for Meyer’s ex to suffer a little, as a treat #GHliveblog
They’re like 85% of the way to flirting, I’m proud of them #GHliveblog
I remember having a hard time writing this ep because I needed it to flow from funny drunk shenanigans to Meyer talking about his past in 30 panels, and things just wouldn’t link up logically!!! #GHliveblog
These 3 are people without family during the holidays (by circumstances, death, and distance)—so I wanted them to find comfort in what they build with each other, even if it’s difficult and awkward at first #GHliveblog
On the inverse, I also wanted to express that the value we put on “family recipes” and holiday meals can make the season painful for people don’t have that relationship with food bc of their upbringing #GHliveblog
There’s a lot that’s already been written about how food is a way that people short on money can reconnect with distant family and/or culture—I wanted to express that with Lucy and Clem, since I really missed Hawaii and Japanese food in college!! #GHliveblog
I thought it was important that when I explore the connections between food, holidays, and home/family, I make sure to emphasize that those 3 things aren’t always connected #GHliveblog
Tfw you forget to foreshadow that your character’s birthday is Christmas Day so you have to clumsily shove hints in at the last minute #GHliveblog
I wish I’d spent more time on Clementine’s story! I feel like he ended up playing parts in other characters’ storylines rather than having his own character explored, which saddens me bc that’s exactly what Graham is expressing here #GHliveblog
I don’t know why but Sofia Vergara’s “I think they r dead” post makes me laugh every time I see it #GHliveblog
I wanted to give Meyer a surprising soft spot, just so we could kiiind of begin to open our hearts to him before the Christmas party
(I feel like Meyer’s actually pretty good with kids, they think his rudeness is funny) #GHliveblog
Lucy’s hair length in the Madeleine-Sherry arc is my favorite, so when I realized I had to make it longer in the holiday arc to show the progression of time, I was VERY SAD
I like her semi-bob!!!
#GHliveblog
I’m sorry that after the end of his arc, Heath more or less became a comic relief character lmao
But he had nothing left to do for his character arc... #GHliveblog
I don’t necessarily think every character needs to end up with a romantic partner, but it felt weird to me that Olive was the only one without someone??
And tbh I’d always considered having her meet Thomas, so I thought this would be a fun one-off ep between arcs! #GHliveblog
But first, Thomas!!
I have a weird level of affection for such a minor character because he was my first draft Graham! Graham’s originally name was even Thomas, but I wanted something slightly less common and not 2 syllables to contrast better with Lucy’s name #GHliveblog
Holiday🍎Arc🍊Liveblog🍋! Let’s break through 100 episodes!!
Again, I’ll be using #GHliveblog if you’d like to mute it!
(Whispers) He knows what her seasoning preferences are now #GHliveblog
It’s nice to return to lighter episodes after the Vending Machine arc!!
I worry a lot about mood balance, because I as a reader have dropped series that are unrelentingly heavy?? Even if there are sad moments, I don’t want readers to come out of GH feeling shitty #GHliveblog
I needed AT LEAST ONE Vietnamese dish during the Nguyen twins arc #GHliveblog
