People aim to hate dither to try put down some game systems in comparisons/discussions, but, it is a very smart tool to blend shades and create smart textures. Strong machines that's handle tons of colors on the screen use it too.. it's an artist tool, a good example:

We’re only halfway through the year but Luca and Mitchells vs the Machines are easily my 2 favourite films so far.

Both tell emotional and light-hearted journeys with some of the best inventive & creative animation. My only nitpick is neither got wide theatrical releases.
