There's not a lot of direct references in mtmte to prior idw rodimus canon in terms of specific events- general references like this where it just gestures in their direction is usually as much as we get.

Similar? Sure. But definitely not the same. If I had to guess, the art direction called for a similar visual as a callback to her first planeswalker card (if you notice, the SL planeswalker is also a callback to her Time Spiral card).
