For take 2 I wanted to make him look like if you touched him you'd get something on you or release a spore cloud or something. Just as grody and unappealing as possible while not having actual open wounds. Super fun, just what I needed.😌

Actually I'll tell you the reason. Changing Sonic's proportions introduced new design problems. His stomach is now bigger than his head, making his face obscured if they are the same color. Hence this weird unappealing solution to make them different colors.
