Mara & 5 shadows attack if PCs refuse to make a bargain with the Entity. Theodora Halvhrest's Mark of the Raven (from lockbox in [22]) can be used to stop Mara from attacking & makes the shadows roll at disadvantage.

If they overcome this, they can escape the HOUSE OF LAMENT!

Settings like Dark Sun & Ravenloft can be grim, but that doesn't mean they're hopeless. Nothing leads to a boring, unfun game quicker than "EVERYTHING IS AWFUL".

PCs should have agency & ability to change the world for the better. Don't punish them every time they're good people
