thought i'd share how the robot kobolds design evolved over time. first draft had a much more draconic/reptile vibe with the head. second draft solidifed the color palette and general theme. third one fixed the proportions and details, and ultimately informed the final 3d model

Stylistically, a big inspiration for characters sprites is mid-90s LucasArts, "realistic cartoon" as seen in Full Throttle and the cancelled Indiana Jones and the Iron Phoenix.

I'm using realistic proportions but keeping the high contrast shading. Works for me!
