If too many shades of the same colour are present, here, the greys in convoluted/detailed areas, it becomes messy and hard to read when you scale it on a grayscale.

In this case, I added cut planes in areas that would be convenient to split the model to minimize the need for support material. Then I had to add holes/recesses to mount the pieces together with screws. These pics show the unique pieces:
