In this finished peice, the background is very overdone. The halftoning and coloring is too similar to the character, making the pallate too samey and ubiquitous. The lighting is very simple but without the white accents the linart would easily become muddled and lost in the bg.

regardless i think it's very interesting that the other cards we see have their image colour and red tied to that loop!! but chiaki has red and purple :o this could just be a continuation of the way purple is used as an accent colour but im fascinated by the choice either way
