This is my character, the dragon AnTanu. A fairly old dragon resembling a lion. He is one of the few flightless dragons. Mostly leads a solitary lifestyle, however, like each dragon, it guards a certain territory in the demon world and maintains peace and order.

„Welcome to the swarm, flightless crow...“

I used a different brush for the Outlines this time, but I think, you can barely see it. It was a lot harder to use, so I guess I’ll switch back to the old one.
Anyway, I‘m still pretty proud of this^^

Thanks for this thread! It’s hard to pick faves this year, but these are the ones I had the most fun with. 😅 My pfp, my OCs Veroni and Oreku, and my friend @/FlightlessTales’s OC Rosaline, which I drew on commission. 3 out of 4 drawn this month, lol.

Do you know those terrible looking flightless pterosaurs from World of Kong? I think they are more serviceable as an evolved version of the flappy handed aquatic compsognathus paleoart meme.

WIP and giving another try at digital 🙄

Macaronesia islands once had a diversity of quail species, such as the flightless Coturnix lignorum, from Madeira. All these insular forms disappeared once these islands were colonized.

Those are very obviously just regular, placeholder CG birds. Aside from one flightless species, canonically there are no flying pterosaurs on the 2005 Skull Island. The animals seen many times in the background during the film are likely just seagulls.

Shin may not be able to fly, but we like to think The God & The Flightless Messenger definitely earned its wings 😉

The first volume is out now in print!

Brontornis

A member of the "terror bird" family, and one of the largest flightless birds discovered, its known mainly from leg and talon remains

ALT: some believe it to actually be an anseriform instead of a terror bird, however one of its vertebrae implies the opposite

Also reminds me of the flightless pterosaurs from Peter Jackson's King Kong, only seen in the art book.
