I think part of why this is so powerful is the sad smile on Magneto’s face.

For all his crimes, his pain and anger, he died a heroes death. Even if the day isn’t won, he died protecting not just his people but the entire world.

He could let go.

Erik has repeatedly used Charles’ last name in the comics. One time he stole (Magneto Vol 2), but “Michael Xavier” was more of an arrangement between the two after Magneto’s trial, when Erik agreed to take over the school for Charles, which is super extra gay to me.
