It's weird that in MMX, enemy designs were made less cartoony, and more intimidating, seemingly diegetically. In-universe, sometime between classic and X, society as a whole just decided to stop putting big, googly eyes on their sentient roombas that shoot people.

Pretty sad that none of the cutscene artwork was included in the collection. It isn't as bad as MMX, where we only have the sprites and sketches over here though, some of the cutscene artwork was actually in the Official Complete Works. Here is one of them.
