In 1979 Don Bluth was unhappy working at Disney, so he left along with 11 of their top animators to create The Secret of NIMH. His studio was the first to offer profit sharing in the animation industry. NIMH is a a pinnacle in traditional animation, often overlooked.

My brother and I rented it once. I remember being pretty startled by it. It’s visually spectacular, with its celestial color palettes and the effective use of rotoscoping and backlit animation (for the glowing eyes).
