In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Donphan was originally brown. But when he made his official debut in Pokemon: The First Movie eight months later, he'd been changed to green & grey.

In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Phanpy originally evolved into Donphan at level 33. But his design was subtly revised for G&S's final build, and he was changed to evolve at level 25.

It's a little weird that they replaced Glalie, he was actually really, really good during the Hoenn League.

But I'm glad that Ash evolved his Phanpy into a strong Donphan. They should let some of the older Pokémon evolve too, like they did with Quilava in DP

I was right all along. He will get the Dragonite, who is voiced by Kenta Miyake. The voice actor also portrayed other Pokémon of Ash’s like Donphan, Krookodile, Noivern, and Meltan, which are from Generations 4, 5, 6, and 7 respectively.

alright all thoughts of strategy went out the window, but I think Daina really likes (sometimes literally) rough around the edges, strong Pokemon! I also just really liked the look of donphan and forretress for her team!
