thought id share a little tip for binary/pixel artists!
most of the time, i use "splotches"/"blobs" to sketch my pixels. this includes mini pixels, icons, and pixel dolls!

i recommend using this technique esp if you have a tiny canvas!

5 or less colors with larger markings or simple gradients. Like large splotches instead of stripes and spots if that makes sense. Just very easy to recreate markings so flat colors alone don’t take more time than shading. (Using my sona as an example, art by peaceskyy.)

Helium - first being detected in sunlight on a solar eclipse, their coloring is that of the sun ! (as well as what it looks like while in a neon lamp..) splotches are added because of its presence in stars (and larger this time, because it kind of looks like little solar flares..

I've noticed that I tend to use gradients too much, to the point where I do them out of habit. This piece was me deliberately trying to stop that. The result is a weird sort of splotchy Junebug, but I feel like I benefitted from the exercise :>
