I think you're confusing style and detail. Serialized, 2D animation has never been big on the detail side of things. The 90's DID see an increase in what LOOKED like detail, since computers streamlined the coloring process, but the cartoons were as simple as they always had been.

Glen More II Chronicles by is just a really enjoyable game. Based on the looks of it you’d expect a big brain burny game but it’s really streamlined and not intimidating when you get into it. I would liken it to Isle of Skye. Really liked it
