It's just really funny that I was like "yeah, it does look like they traced Lowkix", and then they showed this image to prove it, and it immediately pushed me to "oh, they absolutely didn't trace Lowkix"

...Because it was a dumb meme I made in 10 minutes editing the Ricardo dance to look like an orc.
The moral of the story is that people can just be nutty when on their high horse, even if they have no proof.
On top of that, the art always comes before the models do. It is possible the Sugimori art came after, but even then it isn't traced.
And some Paradoxes, as well as that Tauros, are based on the art of the Pokemon they come from.

Similar poses but not traced. Concept art provided by GameFreak usually features more than just basic sketches for 3D, including action poses. The official art is often based on one of the poses.

As a bonus treat here's the bakes from my high-poly base mesh for the AK, couple small bake issues I need to iron out but that's about it. I traced the *entire* thing from scratch to get this level of surface quality & to be able to make skins for it with Fusion 360
