Looking at these again and I think I might prefer Skye's original colors with a black top. It would help him stand out on certain backdrops I don't want to spoil.

Also should I make ALL of Scraps' highlights blue? It looks cute but he loses the thrown together look

Then highlights. Once all the darker shading is done, I take the original skin tone I used and go over places that would be lighter. If it's going over the normal skin tone (like the jaw line), that's when I grab a lighter skin tone than the base.

I put up different examples including my own Madness OC. I do either cell shading or gradient. The madness one I used a watercolor (bleed) brush and made it grungy while adding small highlights. I usually use the blur tool to blend my colors. Layers are your friend.

Day 445: It's coming along pretty good. Rendering skin feels soooooo much easier than clothes/tights 😓
