I’m a black freelance artist and art + education student. I really want to create the stories, comics, and media that I wanted to see growing up and continue to search for now with genuine representation of black and black coded characters.

Garnet from Steven Universe. Not human, but arguably coded black and appears on the depressingly sparse lists of black cartoon characters I found online. Voiced by Black-British singer Estelle.

This month I’m drawing fictional black / black coded characters in support of mostly from cartoons and games. I’ll post both positive and some pretty awful examples of black representation in media I’ve grown up with.

So, drew my spingthing Louie for pride month! Louie is a lesbian, but beyond that one of my most black coded characters due to Chu's lovely designwork!

As we head into pride, remember our allies and stay strong moving forwards. We can do this, Happy Pride.

Yep the third Hourman is an intelligent nanotech colony from the 853rd century. Oh Matthew. He’s gene coded to be related to the Hourman family too though that’s a whole story in of itself.
