(2/2) Today's advice is using line coloring to soften up your image. I think black lines can be a bit harsh when scaled down so for small details like the cracks on the watermelon, line coloring helps soften the image where I want it.

Tried a 64x64 sprite with 2:1 pixels. Not sure if it's worth all the extra work seeing as the sprites would take up too much screen real estate when scaled up at least one time. Original 32x32 sprite on the right.
