A tip for drawing effects around characters is to give it a visual flow. I made it a round sphere which makes the character look stable, fitting for a paladin

Good luck with your move! Pro tip, if you have lots of books, put those into a suitcase that way you can roll them. The weight of books adds up super fast. Also, if you’re not going too far, you can just put a trash bag over hanging clothes & tie them off on the hangers!

Sidewinder isn't my only snake-themed wild west character (sorry not sorry, snakes are cool).
Red here is based on the Diamondback, he's got a forked tongue + foldy-fangs (no venom), plus the markings down his back/tail + on his ankles/wrists. Also missing tail-tip was a rattle.
