Still getting used to this android tablet, thinking using it for rough ideas, sketching, compositing before I move to CSP on my PC to finish sketches. Just too used to stuff in CSP but might see how the android+Samsung) version is at some point. For now, Autodesk Sketchbook it is

Also, are you sure your gradient map didn't work?

I tested this in the latest version of CSP.

The gradient map I created in it works perfectly in Photoshop.
