homg this has been one long slog today. Hand is really tired rn. Mebbe I can finish off some of the last panel. The rope will def be tomorrow. Here is the progress from today - ink to flats to whatever this is now.

heres how my process goes:
rough sketch! first sketch always sucks --> sketch over the first sketch --> settle for mediocrity --> mindlessly slap in flats --> hate the flats and spend forever adjusting values --> RENDERING (BLOWS UP) --> stare at the piece until i decide to post

but then I do shading! I mostly do it on a hard light layer with varying opacity and sometimes stack for the right shading. recently I dont even do highlights unless it has a hard light like this does. It's mostly just purple-red shadows and the flats showing thru for highlights

I keep my sketches v loose and messy, esp for the first few steps. its mostly a "stuff has to be proportional but VIBES"
body and then clothes on a new layer + refining what's not covered by the clothes
then flats(I sometimes skip this ngl-

I post flats practice in that manner - cite the original artist and note you were practicing. For me so far, 100% of the time the original artist is thrilled to see others interact with their work.

I’m still torn with Condor Flats becoming Grizzly Peak. I’m so intrigued by the Studios efforts during WW2 that I think as an expanded story from 1930s BVS, there would be an amazing story to tell there of the 1940’s Greatest Generation.

This WiP was such a risk because I really adore the flats and almost kept it at just the flats (might still make an alt of just flats) and I was worried going all out with textures would be a waste of time but I think the end result is so cute
