In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Tangela had an evolution named Jaranra. He was cut from Gen 2, but he finally returned in Gen 4 -- but with a new name and a new design.

Mantine's typing of Water & Flying makes a lot more sense once you've seen his original design from Gold & Silver's 1997 demo -- which btw, was named Haneei, "Winged Stingray."
