I think an artist should always strive to charge more, in most cases.
But the effort in their work just makes it seem like they don't care. :(

So here is my $200 commission example VS Butch.

OK kept seeing artists going on about some guy called Butch, and when I looked up the who and what, I can see why everyone's dunking on him. Commission I did of 2 characters was less than half of what he charged for a trace

i have never been payed 200 for art
The most ive been paid was 100 from a lovely ass commissioner to just have fun and draw my ocs, be like this!!! Pay artists for their work and if they underprice themselves TIP THEM!!! You uplift us!!!!

The cheapest commission I enlisted and got payed for was $10, and the most I've ever gotten was $73.60. With every artist's hours of motivation a day, and years of skills, how did someone get ripped off of $200 for traced art like this???

all of these added together wouldn’t even cost 200 dollars. First and third would both cost 23 CAD (which is less in USD!!) and the second would cost 48.50 CAD. Buying three pieces like this would cost you 94.50 CAD

I'm not above clowning on Hartman so here's
None of these were commissions but still.
I haven't worked in the animation industry with several shows to my name. I shouldn't be able to find several works of mine that is of higher quality than what he's selling.
