Fun fact: in the beginning of my career I was *obsessed* with texture. I would add layers upon layers of texture until my laptop, basically as many as my laptop was able to take. 😀

taking this time to say i absolutely adore knives as a villain. he's not some one dimensional guy that just wants to destroy humanity but rather he is so much more, he has a lot of layers. once you get to know him, you understand why he does what he does. stan millions knives !
Process WIP When I work on images that I don't have direct lighting ref for, this tends to be my process.
I fill the pencil work with a mid grey. I then spend a hour-ish doing a crude shadow pass, and the same with light.
These are on separate layers so I can alter them easily.

I use 3 separate layers when I create, line art on top, shading middle and colors bottom, I love creating smiles though, my best quality lol

@rowenaaitken *P.S More often than add colour later in the game I do all the flats first, then add those lighting layers on top.
Like on this fella.
The flats are one layer, and because they were done in the pencil tool I can eyedropper them to make a selection then paint in the layer mask
Probably not everyone knows that I draw my works on iPad with 32 GB memory, which means that with high resolution it is impossible to create many layers and I have to choose either to manage to draw on 10 - 15 ⬇️
