One thing I learned to add contrast without messing up skintones is to use the levels layer to clip the ends of the histogram. This way adjusts the darkest blacks first without adjusting the lighter grey colors that can be found in skin.

One of the big issues is how janko colors skin. They use a lot of very saturated and yellow tones in a lot of their skintones when they draw asians. You can chalk it up to warm lighting but even then there’s really no explanation for why the skin is so excessively yellow.
