#procreate timelapse of the cover/#42. Bill Watterson’s style is so distinct, I hope I did a good job paying homage.
@random_scrub A teddy bear in Roman lorica segmentata protecting a little boy from a nightmare in the style of Bill Watterson.
2004 Cartoon Network (my version) wants Gumball Watterson to be his "pet", but Gumball doesn't want to be his "pet". #CartoonNetwork #Gumball @Gumball_NC @CNCity_Bumpers @ClassicCNFan @cartoonnetwork
11. Hamtaro
Another childhood fave! Hamtaro is such a friendly loveable ham-ham and always there to lend a hand. Also can we just talk about his English dub voice? Little orange dude on Cartoon Network whose voice constantly cracks? Hamtaro walked so Darwin Watterson could run
I think that's why modern comic artists have so much to learn from Watterson.
He understood that pen and ink and color were most powerful when they left room on the page for our imaginations to join in.
Compare this to modern styles of coloring ink:
The best examples of Watterson's restraint with color were his snow settings. He used the white of the page and only hinted at color on the edges to create expansive winter landscapes that seemed to extend beyond the boundaries of the page.
And then, the Watterson twins, Madison and Malcolm. One of them died though... Good luck searching who it was XD Also, the Watterson and Watanabe family have familial connections and they are cousins. Add-on, the dolls are what Madison made
Still one of my favorite commissions is this one where I was drawing Wildstar characters in an iconic pose from Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes.
