So for the jay I went back to SAI, exported every single color layer as its own .png (glad I kept every color on its own layer in the first place! thanks past me!), path->trace bitmapped each one individually in inkscape, then assembled them. Definitely cleaner results.

First I tried this hummingbird with a simple path -> trace bitmap on the whole image, which looked okay until I zoomed in and could see how much cleaning up it'd require to make the shapes come together crisply and cleanly.

The decidueye I tried to phone yesterday turned out kind of disfigured, so I tried to mouse it instead.
Trying to export it to PNG with a vectorized texture made Inkscape get stuck, so had to use a bitmap texture.

Working again in Malrrabas Tower. I've been coding a character customization mode. You can change skin color with 5 tones. The hair color can be any color. This is done with masks and blending with BitmapData.
