Thought you might enjoy seeing this one. I re-created Boro's first ever goal at Ayresome based on contemporary written descriptions. (Boro scored first but Sunderland went on to win 3-2)

It's v today & supporters of a certain vintage may recall the Royals rare distinction, in Boro's 1967 post-Christmas charge to promotion from Div 3, of leaving Ayresome unbeaten. Boro goals from John O'Rourke and Arthur Horsfield in a 2-2 draw.

against has echoes of a memorable game at Ayresome, Sept 26, 1970. QPR had a 2-0 lead early on but a hat-trick for John Hickton, two from Hugh McIlmoyle and one from Derrick Downing put things right in a 6-2 Boro victory.

Today it's at the Riverside against . Different days in '73 at Ayresome as Fulham spoiled Jack Charlton's home debut with a 2-0 win. It got better though & a year before the next home defeat. By then, Boro were back in Div 1 after a 20 year absence

This afternoon it's v & a fixture that provokes another memory of Charlton's Champions. At Deepdale in April 1974 Preston achieved the rare feat of scoring more than once against us. Goals from Brine x2, Foggon & Hickton still secured a 4-2 Boro win.

It's v this afternoon. A fixture that reminds me of one of my favourite games: April 20, 1974 & a Graeme Souness hat-trick in an 8-0 Boro win. A more than honourable mention too for the legend John Hickton bought from the Owls for £20,000 in Sept, '66

take on today & we have connections: Both had players who became legendary managerial teams for the other: Boro's Taylor & Clough at Derby & County's Rioch & Todd achieved the same at Boro. A player in common too more recently, was Fabrizio...

v this weekend. Hands up if your mind drifts back to Feb 21, 1976 when Boro went to Elland Road & won 2-0. My painting is of John Hickton, who scored both goals. The Leeds player is Paul Madeley as Boro's Phil Boersma looks on.
