Northern Plains Crocadog: summer vs winter coats.
It gets *cold* in the far north. In spring, plains crocadogs roll and scratch against any hard surface they can find. The shed fur is collected and turned into blankets.

Adapted for grasslands and running: migrated with wild flut-flut flocks when they went north for the summer. They still love water. Summer shedding season is a fluffy time.

I feel like after about a year Jak starts getting these nubby horns and killer headaches, but nothing else changes so he's just seen as a freak. Maybe the red scarf was to hide the horns?
