It’s all about the ladies in my first paintings.
John William Waterhouse (1849-1917) was in truth a little late to be amongst the Pre-Raphaelites painters but his work is usually classified as such. Beautiful though
These are two of the works I'll be discussing in my online talk (Thursday 25th) on the upcoming Pre-Raphaelite exhibition @AshmoleanMuseum https://t.co/InUNBVLrKW
A Golden Thread (exhib. 1885) by John Melhuish Strudwick (England, 1849-1937). ABOVE: A girl and her lover are talking. Their happiness is being determined by the Fates. BELOW: The three Fates are spinning the thread of life. #PreRaphaelite

Miranda (1916) by John William Waterhouse (England, 1849-1917). Pre-Raphaelite style. Miranda from 'The Tempest'. #ShakespeareSunday
"Lady Lilith," Dante Rossetti, 1868.
Rossetti described his subject as a "modern Lilith," which suggests an unfortunate degree of Victorian infanticide but a very fortunate degree of Victorian cowgirl.
