It's Shotaro Ishinomori's 80th birthday! He's had such an enormous impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without him. Ishinomori-sensei, in my eyes, you'll always be the greatest, from here to eternity!

By the way, everyone should check out Naoyuki Konno's 009-1. It's not some fan service anime or a spin-off of Cyborg 009 as many people were lead to believe. It's possibly the most underrated Ishinomori adaptation to date. Konno really put a lot of passion into it and it shows.

There's a Fantasy World Jun exhibition going on for Shotaro Ishinomori 80th Anniversary celebrations, including art work from Jun, Magical World of Jun (both the Apache and Lyrica versions), Jun's Memories, Other Travels, 7P, FANTASY JUN, and The Snow Woman Dies for Love.

Yes, I know, I'm a big fan of Yokoyama and Ishinomori! But I was wrong, the Tetsujin covers are not Shogakukan Bunko, they are Akita Bunko. Here are other similar covers for Ishinomori works by the two companies:

They did some of these for other Ishinomori series as well! But the Shogakukan Bunko covers for Tetsujin 28 are some of my favorites:

In recent years, Ishinomori's former assistant Masato Hayase and writer Kyoichi Nanatsuki have worked together to conclude the Genma Taisen series. This manga project, Genma Taisen Rebirth, is still ongoing with the full story finally being told as left in Hirai's original notes.

The original Genma Taisen was developed for Shonen Magazine, slightly after Ishinomori concluded the Underground Empire of Yomi arc, at the time believed to be the end of his Cyborg 009 series. It was envisioned as one of the most ambitious projects for both Ishinomori and Hirai.

Like many shows from that era, Robocon was a product of media mix. Which means a manga and TV show were produced independently at the same time. Ishinomori penned 2 different Robocon manga. The first run in Shonen Sunday had a wacky, loose art style aimed at older readers.

Ishinomori became really busy due to the transforming hero boom. At some point, he decided his next hero would be different. It's said he appeared in front of his fan club with a design similar to a snowman and told them "This is going to be my next hero. It's going to be cute!"

While Konno worked with Ishimori Pro on several different projects, there's a lot of his artwork featuring Ishinomori properties that were never shown outside of very limited media. I would love to see it all collected in a single art book. Here's just a few examples of these:
