Value is a big part of what we're talking about when we're looking at contrast. Placing two very different values next to one another creates high contrast. Putting two similar values together creates low contrast.(2/10)

@SamHartburn I like this. My version with Mathematica is a bit of a cheat: two radius values are trial and error values rather than exact solution from intersection calculations. I may go back and clean it up. I drew this using four disks and three annular sectors. #DigitalGeometrySketchbook

Day 1746: Turning! I liked this one. The photo was nice, and the process was smooth. I think the final result was kinda heading down the right path too! The brush work still isn't quite what I wanted, but it's smoother and the values were on the right track. A good step!
more painting study. i think i over-rendered, used a brush that is too soft and used values that were too dark in most places. i pinched a nerve in my arm and it is getting worse so i'll take a break and see if it improves.
