the version without the mouth makes it look like they have this big protruding jaw like a silly cartoon (the difference being that this is a SERIOUS cartoon for SERIOUS individuals)

i miss drawing in this style in general actually. theres not much of a change between then and now but its a huge difference to me and i cant go back for some reason

The only tried and true method to tell the difference between the two is the teeth. Alligators (& caimans - same thing really) have a slight overbite, so when their mouths are closed, the lower teeth are hidden behind the uppers. Crocs on the other hand have interlocking teeth.

Finally was able to finish this set! You can see some of the drastic differences between left and right, especially in palettes. Note some are missing due to me rethinking their existence ;)

I finished first two acts again to see all plot threads and get achievements, and I could appreciate even more sheer passion behind this title, visible in elements like typography (!!!), intentional differences in artstyles of persons, and presenting their emotions and behaviors.

I was just listening to the English version, and Baizhu sounded somewhat very surprised in this scene.
But in the Japanese version, he doesn't sound that surprised, but more like he is wondering.
