Personally i believe that the MOTU movie could start with a brief introduction of King Grayskull & the Power Sword, a hint of how he used it to defeat the ancient threat of Hordak, & how the Sword passed to the various guardians, & then boom to the modern Eternian times.

Ryan, indeed has this charisma, to update the MOTU characters & even their weapons to an awesome level, but without basically change them. Take for example Tri-Klops. Ryan took the concept of the original badass bounty hunter & swordmaster, & make him look real!
