I guess so, but the art direction is the same from 12 and 14. 9 was super unique and still not replicated to this day, whereas anything previous to 7 was done by Amano, I think?

Almost sure Dezaki's style was influenced by film. But if that were the case, he didn't limit himself to replicate it's techniques, he also used the unique resources of animation to create even more powerful images.
