HBD Herbert Matter (190784) was hired as a designer/photographer for Deberny & Piegnot in 1929, where he learned the nuances of fine typography while assisting A. M. Cassandre. Matter's Paris years ended in 1932, when he was expelled from France for not having the proper papers.
