Francis Picabia was a French avant-garde painter & typographist. After experimenting w/ Impressionism & Pointillism, he moved into Cubism w/abstract colors & rich planar compositions. This work is over an older one, his FC is half hiding if you compare & tilt the painting.

@Saerinn_ Whether I'm underappreciated or underknown, I'll still be languishing in their shadows.
Aspiring illustrator, mainly designs characters & fantasy. Leans heavily into the emulative fan arts, avant-garde streak, & a predilection for voluble diction. You'll hear back from me!

“The devil follows me day and night because he is afraid to be alone.” (Francis Picabia, French avant-garde painter, self-portrait)
"I am a local Cincinnati native artist who started watercolor classes as a toddler. I particularly like to paint nature's beautiful creatures with expressions and lots of color!" - Leeanne Mahoney, Deep Blue Art (2020 Cincinnati Summer Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show Vendor)
By the end of the 50s her work was gathering interest amongst the avant-garde. Two Girls, Spanish Harlem (1959), Tree (c1959), Sam (1958) & Boys on 108th Street (1955). Children were always central to her work & she explored their depiction with equal psychological intensity
She married in 1924 & graduated a year later & moved to Havana. She was influenced by ideas of equality & was a member of the Cuban avant-garde. Contrasts (1927), Requiem (1928), Degenerate Madonna (1930) & Ethel Ashton (1930)
Art vs Kitsch
Lots of critics of modern art, in their disapproval of avant-garde get to the point where they praise any sort of art that uses traditional techniques even if such art is quite obviously kitsch. The artist that comes to my mind is Volegov and his sentimentalism.
