Does the sea have emotions, I wonder,
Or is it just a matter of science?
Can the sea become "agitated,"
Or is it merely a chaotic combination
Of wind and moon and sun and season?

🎨 Monet, "Mer agitée à Étretat" (Agitated Sea at Étretat) (1883)

Happy with the second of "12 Revolutionary Art Movements That Have Shaped Our Visual History." You would recognize Impressionist artists like Monet, Renoir, Mary Cassatt, & Alfred Sisley. Can you believe Impressionism was once an outcast visual movement?

Van Gogh had a close relationship with little-known Australian painter John Peter Russell. They met as students & kept in contact for many years. Russell did the first portrait of van Gogh (at R), worked with Monet, was Rodin's pal & had big influence on Matisse. Enjoy his work!

“I still love Monet, when I was in Paris recently I went back to the Musée d'Orsay and I hadn’t been for many years and it was it was like seeing old friends, it’s an amazing feeling to see the paintings that made you want to become a painter.”
