The Snowman still makes me blubber every year when I watch it, and When The Wind Blows traumatised me when they wheeled the TV and the video player in to show it to us in primary school. 'Cause y'know, it's a cartoon and we were kids, right? Thank you, Mr. Raymond Briggs. (K)

RIP Raymond Briggs.

Jim and Hilda, dying slowly from radiation, climbing into their bags and waiting for someone to come save them is the kind of thing that stays with you but also creates a life-long distrust in government. Not as relevant today of course. Ahem.

Fungus The Bogeyman - I still have my childhood copy, full of weird funny icky incidental details. I adored the Bogey Boy's bedroom, where he slept in a slime filled sardine tin, and the Flaked Corn breakfast cereal. Thank you Raymond Briggs, a legend.

RIP Raymond Briggs. He delighted kids with Fungus the Bogeyman and The Snowman, and terrified adults with When the Wind Blows and The Tin Pot Foreign General. And he always did so with a rare genius. One of our greatest cartoonists.

There are a few books which are obviously for small children, but I don’t usually think about whether a book is for children or adults.
- Raymond Briggs. Saddened to hear that the author & illustrator of such books as The Snowman has passed.

Such sad news today about the passing of Raymond Briggs. A true pioneer in the world of children's books. He will be remembered by generations to come through his books that will be passed down from family member to family member ❤

Saddened to hear the passing of such a massive influence on myself artistically as a child growing up.

Whether the brutal undoing that is When the Wind Blows or the perfect dream of childhood that is The Snowman, he was a massive inspiration and he'll be missed by so many.
Rest in peace, Raymond Briggs x

so sad to read of his passing. His works, so many of them, especially Fungus the Bogeyman, When the Wind Blows, and of course The Snowman were as important to this boy as works by or any other author. His legacy is a wonderful one. Thank you x

Very sad at the loss of Raymond Briggs.
His unique, honest and quietly powerful creations are such a big part of so many childhoods.
He created a snowy thread that has run through my entire career.

Thank you and

The work of Raymond Briggs was something I loved as a child, and then grew to appreciate in a new way as I grew up. This image is from Ug, a book I missed at first but shared with my daughter (who loves it, of course...)

RIP Raymond Briggs. One of my favourite illustrators and authors. Both his kids books and his more adult work has such a wonderful mix of humour and sadness.

Briggs nos dejó un relato desolador y despiadado de la locura de la guerra nuclear. Quizás, si su lectura o visionado fuera obligatoria en todo el mundo, este planeta no intentaría lanzarse a la autodestrucción con alegría.

Alongside When the Wind Blows, other deeply resonant books such as Tin-Pot Foreign General and the Old Iron Woman or Gentleman Jim are definitely worth a read. Not for young children... https://t.co/maVfoCQsgg
