One detail I'm surprised people liked in my Happy Skies AU was Minnie being Tails's adopted mom. I just thought it was a cute idea but in the back of my mind I'm like "People are gonna hate me for this" But it warms my heart that people legit liked the idea ;v;

This can be even extended further to explain Tails's role in Sonic 2. Tails isn't determined to stop Eggman, he is only determined to follow Sonic. This motivation is much weaker, so he falls behind. Only playing as Tails alone to stop Eggman gives him the spotlight to succeed.
