On this day in history (28th July 1402), after years of build up, the battle of Ankara takes place in which Amir Timur defeats the Ottomans led by Sultan Bayezid.

After the battle, Timur appointed Musa Celebi, the son of Bayezid as the new Ottoman sovereign.
