In a 2014 essay, Louise Simonson offers her unique perspective as Claremont’s long-time editor on the compressed storytelling that Claremont’s X-Men comics created in contrast to varying industry standards. 1/5

Did you know? the 2012 film Brave is actually a soft adaptation of the classic Claremont-Sienkiewicz New Mutants arc "The Demon Bear Saga"?

just one way 2010s Disney got around the licencing issues with Fox.

The girls are seen bonding through a mix of friendly gestures and playful cruelty/ribbing. The dynamic that is established in this vignette is very much what we’ll see between the two for the remainder of the Claremont run (and even beyond). 5/8

Claremont’s Spider-Man is very close to established canon and deviates little from what we’d expect. Claremont does, however, draw out Peter’s sense of burden and of the absurdity of the superhero calling. We’d see this again in later X-Men crossovers with him. 4/10

In UXM 195, Claremont adds a further nuance to the Kitty/Logan relationship by portraying his key supporting role in her first go as leader of the team, providing encouragement, support, and modeling deferral to her authority for the rest of the squad. 1/8

In honor of Chris Claremont's birthday, I'd like to share this classic story by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, Terry Austin, Glynis Wein, Tom Orzechowski, and Louise Jones.

Motivation is usually an underpinning to character but in a fantasy story like UXM Annual 11, where the X-Men glimpse their fondest desires, Claremont can render the subtextual into the textual. Thus, it’s a great character study for the run. 1/7

Probably stretching it as an “X-guest spot” cover but hey! Warwolves! And Claremont!

In New Mutants Claremont pauses the usual traumatic adventure serial that the franchise is famous for with a “Slumber Party” that briefly overlaps the vehicle and tenor of the fundamental metaphor of the franchise: the surreal horror of adolescence. 1/10

Claremont’s reform projects for characters who had been abandoned such as Longshot and Dazzler, and characters who were detested villains such as Magneto and Rogue, might show that he’s very good at building reader sympathy where it might otherwise seem impossible. 2/9

Callisto is one of the most obviously gender-queer characters in the entirety of Claremont’s run, to such a degree in fact that later authors (and even Wikipedia) failed to grasp Claremont’s complex treatment of the character’s relationship to gender in a notable story. 1/8

How it started------------------How it's going

It's more than just nostalgia to say it was better in the day. Whether it was Barry Windsor-Smith, Claremont, Hama, etc. even during the milk it 'til it's dry days of the 90s boom there wasn't this idiocy. https://t.co/ynZKg6Ziho

Latest on talks badness: "For me, one of the pivotal things that makes a comic 'bad,' and that makes Chris Claremont's work good, is self respect. Not of the author, but of the medium. You want a comic that wants to be good." -

I think it’s fairly obvious that the was an influence on I loved how and were able to tell stories about being social outsiders in a superhero setting. It’s a wonderful world to infuse some social commentary. I’m excited to see
