Blender trick I figured out that isn't super relevant unless you're familiar with rigging and probably really obvious if you are: Damped track targets (like the goggle-looking bone that moves Ultra's eyes) can be rotated—not just moved laterally—and the bones will follow it

Been working on more level editor stuff, copied selections can be saved! Placing now shows a preview and it can be rotated. (Maybe not the best implementation, but hey it works!)

FINALLY making a new dire session in blenderrrr
My previous one was imported with the old version of the psk importer so the bones were all weirdly rotated 🥴
This one also uses the fnshader so its muuuch more polished now 😳

Still missing a lot so it looks a bit skeletal! Starting to add elements that allow diverging from the grid floor plan. In a later pass, whole sections will be anchored then rotated off grid.

I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND these are the new axis. Y is flipped and everything's rotated a bit, so callie and caliborn are closest to good/evil, but still have a bit of the alt alignment in them. d&d are closer to middle ground.

[2]before, we removed the weapon 'cause we need to separate the 'slash' vfx, as design wise:
1) we planned to modify the vfx for buff power
2) we need to reuse 2 dir char anim for 8 dir vfx (rotated)

we're still doing 2) now but adding back the bell improves the feel of weight.

Each character's 3D rig included controls to help manipulate various elements and maintain more 2D-esque silhouettes and poses. Pearl's lovely nose, for example, gets rotated on her face to ensure it never directly points at the camera.

And here is a look at how I set up the bones for the head and hair. The tilt is controlled by a single bone (purple) and the other bones simply follow its commands (transform constraints). Green bones can also be moved or rotated. Same for yellow bones (used for the hair).

How the effect is done: each part has a top and front view, and a "depth setting". The top and front are squished and stretched based on camera height. The top and bottom together are moved based on the depth setting & camera height. It's just rotated as a whole for tilt.

F-18's UV maps must be the most messed one in AC7, correct me if there's a worse one... bort nos near radome got split into 2 locations, one rotated. Same for those on top of fins and etc.

What I really love about the new Scene & Voxel Editors in is that independent objects can interact with each other. Here I had a lot of rotated blocks, each a separate object, and could easily add some vines in a new object, and they follow the blocks.
