He is mutant thus he can transform further than other sphinxes. In feral form he has got abnormal skull structure. Wes refers it as 'bag'.
Usually sphinxes have just human-like head in both human (default) and feral forms, unable to transform it.

Oboro's hair has barely changed, unlike Benawi's hair and facial structure.

Close-up of rainbow Lepidocyrtus springtail, incl. some of their scales! So the scales themselves are transparent & it is the light refraction that creates the color. Wish I had access to a more powerful scope or an SEM to check out the structure...
