Growing up with Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Rush have cemented this man’s art in my brain permanently. I have always looked up to and tried to analyze this Sonic style. Even his modern more angular art is an inspiration to me.

Till the end it seems that they choose on a mix of a parallel sonic&knuckles but also a imperial princess which fills in the guardian speed type role, and that's what uekawa designed after fire powered cat designs for a rival
