I 1st draw out the outlines of the skull and some muscles, especially at the mouth
It's more interesting than just sketching
But I'd like to reach a level where anatomical sketches r no longer needed, I'll can just imagine it on paper or canvas.. and draw with this idea in mind.

As I was searching for tutorials on pixel art outline styles (black, colored/shaded, none), I came across plenty that call the shaded ones 'selective outlining'. This seems to be incorrect (image via 's tutorial & other older sources indicate selout as AA from inside).

From here we go to a program called Clip2Comic. It’s the best of the genre of make-your-selfie-a-cartoon programs on the market that I’ve played around with, and the paid version offers a lot to tweakability in terms of outlines and retouching.

I added outlines to the teeth today and adjusted some shape keys to make the teeth edges more visible aswell as depth in the mouth. I think it looks real good!
