I am a lover of metroidvania games and this game was one of the most pleasant surprises I had. It is an ingenious game, with good mechanics and a story that manages to catch you. It's a journey worth playing.

Guys, I think this guy might like Metroid.
No, but seriously. Holy crap. It blows me away at how amazing this FAN GAME was. To the point that it outdid a lot of actual big companies’ works, and other “major” Metroidvanias out there.
2017:
METROID - Samus Returns (Nintendo 3DS)
On the same year that Prime 4 was announced (and as of this post, still currently doesn’t exist 💀), this title was released.
And while it may have some issues that miss the point of Metroid 2 on GB, it’s really great.
2020: Ori & the Will of the Wisps
Still the best Metroidvania I’ve ever played and one of the most satisfying games I’ve ever played. Turns out all it took to make a perfect game was to give a small spirit child an energy sword and let them go ham.

2017. Since I cheated that last one it means I get to put a game here other than Nier. I debated between this and life is strange: before the storm, but in the end. this won out. It's the only metroidvania I've enjoyed playing in many years. And I'm looking forward to silksong
Samus' visor changes often throughout the Metroid series, but how awesome it looks always stays the same.
