im almost certain what happened here is i took the bg color (i almost always used yellow bg to draw back then) and just added it to the design. like look
these two were perfect character design. they were polar opposites, both in personality AND color theory wise (orange and blue, green and pink) AND EVEN their general shapes, wander carrying weight on the top and sylvia on the bottom. i miss them

I went through 2 concepts and a lot of trial and error before I made my final design.
